PicBlitz starts by scanning your hard drive for photos and graphics while it builds an in-memory database. A typical scan for 50,000 photos takes about 30 seconds. As the mouse is moved, photos are displayed instantly because the hard drive is treated as read only, reducing drive head movement. When graphics are modified, the original disk file is never changed, preventing accidental overwrites. Organizational commands such as move, copy, rename are virtual; the disk files are not updated. Saving files is optional, used only when necessary. One such case is when uploading photos to the web. Optimal uploads require modifying a photo’s resolution or size. To make resizing easy, Picblitz has a batch resize command and a special folder containing only graphic modifications so they may easily be saved.

PicBlitz gets its speed from memory, which in the PC world is a hundred thousand times quicker than disk. Consider how easy it is to lose track of a misplaced graphic, hidden somewhere in the wrong directory. Searching a hard drive is a very slow process. PicBlitz has an instant search command that looks through a memory based image of the hard drive. Results are retrieved as instantaneously as an online search. To further assist searches, PicBlitz has a by date view and calendar control. A speed adjustable full screen slide show is synchronized with the views. After it is closed, the current file is highlighted for further actions

PicBlitz is sold in two versions; Home or Professional. The home version is for photographers having less than 10,000 JPEGs. PibcBlitz Professional manages over 500,000 photos and is perfect for professional photographers, graphic artists, journalists or large scale photo management as a middleman between Explorer and a graphics editor.
